Founded by Harvey Firestone in 1900, the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company originally supplied pneumatic tires for wagons, buggies, and other forms of wheeled transportation common in the era. Firestone soon saw the huge potential for marketing tires for automobiles and helped his company pioneer the mass production of tires. Firestone used such relationships he developed to become the original equipment supplier of Ford Motor Company automobiles, while also becoming active in the replacement market at the same time. In 1988, Firestone was purchased by the Bridgestone Tire Company.
For touring vehicles, Firestone developed the Affinity Touring tire series. This tire offers sharp looks without a premium price. It has been manufactured with a solid center rib coupled with an optimized shoulder element angle and shape which delivers a quiet ride.
